Garbage Disposal Smart Plug with Wireless Switch Kit

My first review for this product was about delays in shipping, which--to their credit--the service department tried to help me resolve. Although many of Avatar's products ship from the US, the Garbage Disposal Smart Plug ships from China. I ordered mine in the midst of the chaos of the Trump Tariffs, and it took a month to finally make it to my door in the US.

The smart plug device plugs into an outlet under the sink, and the disposal plugs into the smart plug. The remote switch is already paired to the smart plug, so it works right out of the box. It also can be controlled by WiFi if you want to activate the switch from a phone app (though I don't really understand that particular use case--I would always be standing in front of my sink if I wanted to use the disposal).

This smart switch is a great solution if you are adding a disposal to a sink that was not designed with a switched outlet close to where the disposal will go. We were in that situation, and were using an air switch that did not work well. We didn't want to drill a hole through our quartz counters, so the air switch sat under the sink, and we'd have to crouch down to activate the air switch. It required quick action and a lot of force to turn it on and off. Very awkward.

Now with the Avatar Controls Smart Switch, we have stuck the on/off switch in easy reach on the backsplash. It's so much more convenient. Also, it doesn't look like other switches nearby, so people are less likely to start the disposal accidentally. The switch is not connected to power (it runs using a coin battery), so you don't have to worry about a shock when turning on the disposal with wet hands.

The only improvement I'd make to the smart switch is to reshape the plug-in portion so it's flattened on the upper and lower surface rather than being a perfect circle. As it is currently shaped, it crowds the outlet above or below. I had to shave off plastic from the dishwasher outlet that plugs into the same dual outlet to allow it to plug in above the Smart Switch.

Four stars rather than five due to shipping issues. Overall, a great product.

It's rich that Avatar Controls is asking for review of a product that I have not yet received 15 days after ordering. Noting the Irvine, CA office of Avatar, I placed an order expecting that I'd get quick shipping from CA to WA. Little did I know that the order went straight to China. It appears that Avatar Controls simply has a Potemkin storefront to attract US customers, when its products come from China. Export control has held up delivery of my package, and I don't know when I'll receive it. I'd likely have reviewable product almost two weeks ago if I'd ordered from Amazon.

Build quality is great. And it works straight out of the box.
